Lonesome Train by Wide Valley

Madrid’s singer-songwriter J. González comes back to us with an all-star cast made up of St Woods, Rick Costa, and Owl C. This release, Lonesome Train presents a laidback approach and fluidity in the melody and tone, the striking delivery in the chorus and subtle transitions nuanced by the piano and frolicking surf guitar style. The guitar tone is so audacious and rich with texture. There is a thickness in the wailing that is akin to the presence in Lord Huron or Wilco.

The bands calls out “Lonesome Train” as a look back to our childhood, the times when we felt invincible. It would seem that Wide Valley sends us this song as an up-tempo delivery to instill hope for our ultimate freedom through this daunting world that is devolving quickly around us. This is the band’s most hopeful song to date, a careening and arousing call sent to us in the form of rocked out Americana, and graceful folk vibes.

There is a brilliant playfulness that is showcased in the attached video. I love the feel of this tune, there is a perfect balance in the mix, production and instrumentation. The vocal is subtle and honest. This comes across in the tone and cadence; there is a genuine vibe in the delivery that warrants further discovery and endeavors the listener to seek understanding in the lyric.
